What is the difference between a full lace and a front lace wig? A full lace
wig is made entirely of base lace material, it is more time consuming to make, taking at least 40 to 60 man hours to ventilate,
versus a front lace wig which only the top or very front of the wig is ventilated, the rest of the wig is wefted with tracks
like a regular wig.
What is ventilation?
Ventilation is the term used to explain the process of inserting strands
of hair into wig and skin bases. Special needles with a hooked end are used. The process is very similiar to that of rug making.
You can learn more about this process by buying our eBook listed in the Information Products Section in the store section.
Is wig making something too hard for me? Wig making is more time consuming
and tedious than time difficult. If you are good with your hands and have the time and patience to learn this skill and do
a quality job, you can pick this up much as one does any other skill, such as knitting or weaving. Once you learn the method,
it is a matter of having the patience to work on something for hours and not rushing along to complete. To create a beautiful
and quality wig you must employ the patience needed to do so.
The lace does not match my skin tone. Although it is not entirely necessary
since you should be trimming the lace as close as possible to the hairline, the lace can and should be dyed to match the skin
tone before being ventilated. Rit Dye is our favorite dye to use, if you aren't sure how to do it test your method on
a scrap piece of lace first. Start out with a batch of dye diluted with water first and gradually deepen the color as
necessary until the desired color is achieved. This is a difficult process to master perfectly so don't be discouraged
easily. Often, just adding the general color tone to the material is sufficient to get it to blend better on the wearer. I
have also heard of people using markers an make up to color in sections that aren't blending in. You can simply use a
cotton tip submersed in the dye and dab it on to the lace in the areas where the lace shows.
Miracle Cure for tangled units: The Bleach Bath
If your unit gets old or becomes tangled
or puffy, you can make it look like new again with a bleach bath. The bleach acts as a clarifier and the ammonia acts as a
softener to bring your unit’s hair back to life. Use the chemicals on the hair, not on the lace cap and follow the directions
exactly. This treatment can be done as often as needed at your discretion. Totally de-tangle the unit first. Just
dip in the hair, not the lace cap. 1. Mix one gallon of very hot water (hottest available from the tap) with 1/4
cup of Clorox bleach. (Do not use old Clorox or a generic brand, it will not work.) 2. Totally submerge the human
hair into the water for approximately 2 or 3 minutes. (Do not leave longer than 3 minutes) Comb or brush very gently when
submerged. 3. Remove hair and submerge in a basin of lukewarm water that has been pre-mixed with shampoo. Gently
lift in and out for about 3 minutes and also brush or comb the hair very gently when submerged. Remove and blot dry 4. Mix 1/4 cup of ammonia to 3 cups of warm water. Dip hair in and out twice. 5. Repeat step 3 6.Apply
conditioner, rinse and style. Your wig will look brand new and be tangle free All comments above are
